Health Benefits of Nut Butters!

I'm a huge peanut butter fan. Nuts for the nuts. In fact, last year I won a year's supply of the stuff. Got through it all in 9 months...

Crunchy or smooth, cheap or expensive, on toast, rice cakes, in cooking or straight from the jar. There’s a huge bonus too- peanut butter has actual health benefits.

Here are a few of the health benefits of eating peanut butter (specifically peanut for this post as it is my true love).

1. Protein

Nuts are a source of protein. A spoonful of peanut butter either from the jar or mixed into a shake is a great way to get your post work out fuel and boost your protein intake and help your muscles heal and repair. A spoonful of SunPat peanut butter will give you 2.6g of protein for 63 calories.

2. Potassium rich

Potassium has been proven to reduce your risk of strokes, high blood pressure, kidney problems, anxiety and heart disease. It also can enhance your muscular strength, boost metabolism and your nervous system.

3. Full of Fat (the good kind)

You might look at the jar of peanut butter and see the fat is in the red- however, just as with calories, not all fats are created equal. Peanut butter is rich in mono-saturated fats with his great for your heart health and believe it or not, your waistline.

4. Fiber

Peanut butter contains a fair amount of fibre too. Eating enough fibre is important to ensure you maintain bowel health and keep everything moving along.

5. High in antioxidants

Peanuts contain an antioxidant called resveratrol which can help to prevent blood vessel damage and blood clots (this is also found in red wine, if you need me I’ll be in the Kitchen with a glass of Merlot and a jar of PB- all in the name of health, naturally.) This antioxidant can help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
