If you don't like it, why do it?
I was running with the dog the other day, it was hot and I felt slow and sluggish after a busy few days on my feet (and a heavy leg session!). Then I saw a car with a bumper sticker saying "If you don't like it, why do it?" and it felt very poignant.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love to run, but yesterday I wasn't feeling it even when I left the house, but I thought I might get in to it.
The sun was beaming, the dog was stopping at every water bowl (thank you people of Thame for leaving those doggie bowls out) and I wished I'd opted for a leisurely walk around the river.
So many people say to me, 'I should run really, but I don't like it.'
Honestly, if you really hate running, don't do it. It will make you dread putting on your trainers, and exercise should always be fun.
This doesn't only go for running either. If you hate going to the gym don't go, or if you dread lifting weights, stay home. There are so many other things you can do to get fit, drop body fat and tone up. If you really hate it you will not stick at it.
You can play a game of rounders with the family, go on a long walk, play volleyball on the beach, dig up the garden, dance.
Though, remember not to knock it unless you've tried it.
Don't say that you hate something if you've never actually tried it (oh my, I sound like my mother). But seriously, if you really are dedicated to your fitness journey try everything. Go to body pump, yoga, swimming, spin classes, out for a quick jog, different machines at the gym, go with a friend, go on your own, try a taster zumba class, a PT session, kickboxing or even a workout DVD.
Give everything your best and you will be sure to find something you like, even if it is walking at a pace around the village.
Same with diet and nutrition too. Just because the whole clean eating world is into Kale, it doesn't mean you have to be eating it if you don't like it. Stick with the veggies and fruits that you enjoy, maybe try a new one now and then, but if you don't like it, bin it.
However, try everything!
Do what you love and you'll find the motivation to keep it up.
